Advent means arrival, and during this time of year, the church celebrates the arrival, the coming of Jesus Christ into the world. Before Christ came, the people of God were in a season of waiting. They were anticipating, longing for God to keep his promise to send the Messiah into the world. For us, we too are in a season of anticipating, longing for Christ to return and come once again. Celebrating Advent is a way for us to get in tune with that sense of longing and anticipation. This year, as we reflect on the arrival of our Savior, we look to the gospel of Luke where we read the songs of those who rejoiced in Christ’s birth.
